Built an addition with Pella windows and doors

This project was started after our family had lived in the house for the past 28 years. Both children (us) had long since moved out. My father and mother decided to begin a day care at home. They wanted to keep the house lively and to enjoy the company of so many different families living in the area. As the day care quickly became popular they needed to improve the condition of the house to safely accommodate more children and create an even warmer and sunlit space. Both my father and mother wanted more sunlight throughout the whole house. It was a renovation long overdue.

Our obstacles were trying to limit and schedule the construction around the fully operating day care. Unfortunately, as soon as the first elements of the existing house were demolished the project quickly grew in scope. So much of the house was in extremely poor and deteriorating condition. It was going to have to become a substantial renovation project. The roof substrate needed complete replacement. As the new Pella windows arrived on site for the addition, it became quickly clear that ALL the existing windows had absolutely none of the great features, quality and insulative properties of the new window units. It was then decided to replace all the existing windows. The scope of the project grew some more.

KC-Pella was extremely helpful in getting us the proper product for our design. Because of the quickly changing scope on this project, our office appreciated being able to get in touch quickly with a representative who is knowledgeable about the product line and can also place orders for the product. Finally, when the product was delivered, a field representative came on-site to ensure that proper installation and flashing techniques were followed.

The reaction to the project has been overwhelmingly positive. The project was written up in a local newspaper. All the parents and their children love the new daycare spaces. We frequently receive positive comments from the neighbors and passerbys. My family is very happy with the Pella windows. My father and I are both Architects, and have in the past worked with many different brands of windows. The Pella product is clearly a well crafted and solidly built window. We have recommended to many visitors to the house. It is evident that even though we have increased the amount of glazed areas in various spaces of the house, the ambient temperature is not betrayed by the window units.
