K.C. Company, Regional Pella Window Distributor, Plays Important Role in Historic Renovation

BELTSVILLE, MD – K.C. Company, Inc., regional distributor for Pella Windows & Doors, recently completed the installation of over 500 Pella windows in Baltimore’s historic Standard Oil building. Located at 501 St. Paul Street, the Stanbalt (for Standard Oil Baltimore) was converted into a 202-unit apartment building by Northern Virginia based Southern Management Company. The 16-story renovation required that the 9-foot tall by 4 foot wide custom made Pella windows be historically accurate while performing to today’s standards. The K.C. Company provided the building’s owners with a transferable warranty on all the windows.

Built in 1923 by John D. Rockefeller as a headquarters for Standard Oil in Baltimore when the city was the company’s center for oil export from Pennsylvania, the building has a vaulted lobby with heavy bronze doors, marble pillars and ceilings decorated by plaster flowers and swirls that look as if they could be on a palace dome. According to Jim Cassidy, K.C. Company Commercial Sales Representative, “The interior of the building is terra cotta tile which made the installation of the windows a difficult task, however we worked with the architects to develop a successful solution to the installation hurdle.”

K.C. Company managed to deliver the custom windows in four weeks and finished the installation 3 months ahead of schedule.
