Cleaning Tips

Do I need to clean the exterior aluminum cladding?

Yes. The factory-baked finish is much like that on your auto, it needs periodic care to keep its color and shine. Use a mild soap and water solution, applied and rinsed with a sponge or chamois; do not use abrasives. A stubborn stain or deposit may require a small amount of mineral spirits for removal. Touch up paint is available from our Parts Department.

A quality car wax will restore a shine. Our service technicians recommend Dupont #7 polisher, available at auto-parts supply stores. If you live in a salt-water environment, use fresh water to rinse the exterior cladding and operator hardware at least quarterly.

What do I use to clean the glass?

  1. Never use a razor blade to scrape off stubborn materials. Permanent damage and glass breakage may occur.
  2. Use a pre-mixed vinegar-based solution (10% vinegar, 90% water.) Windex® Clear and Sparkle Purple® also work well. DO NOT use ammonia- or alcohol-based solutions as this chemical will cause streaks and may produce a film. A small amount of mineral spirits will remove grease or glue smudges. Soft-Scrub® or Bar -Keepers Friend® may be used sparingly on crayon, oil, tape, and/or paint marks.
