Baltimore The Community Mediation Program (CMP) is a non-profit organization that provides alternative dispute resolution and education to Baltimore residents. CMP trains community volunteers to serve as mediators at 100 community based sites throughout Baltimore City. Mediators provide a neutral process and facilitation for residents to resolve conflicts ranging from custody disputes to neighborhood issues. CMP also provides training in conflict resolution to community groups, businesses, schools and police, and serves as a venue for community meetings. The building that houses CMP is a 1920 Art Deco style building with a rich history in the community. From the 1930s to the 1990s, it served as a popular nightclub and restaurant before being occupied by CMP. The building’s North wall is covered with one of the most prominent and frequently viewed murals in Baltimore City. With the help of HGTV and its partners, the CMP building will get a much-needed facelift.

Washington DC Anacostia is one of the most historic neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. Its decaying downtown, which is beginning to be revitalized with construction of some office buildings, is located at the intersection of Good Hope Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. It is the most famous neighborhood in the Southeast quadrant of Washington, located east of the Anacostia River, – and one of the District’s Main Street communities. While the Anacostia neighborhood is in dire need of extensive rehabilitation, this community revitalization effort would help clean up and maintain Anacostia Park and River, repair elderly housing in the neighborhood and improve a community education center that serves at risk children.
